Here are a few questions we get all the time about a domain name.
#1. Should you use YOUR name in YOUR domain/website?
When you get your license everyone says use your firstnamelastname.com but should you?
In general, the answer is almost ALWAYS no.
Most agents just don't think about what might happen in the future. So if you have a website that is firstnamelastname.com (in this example I will use my own name), here are some questions you need to ask yourself:

Is your name easy to remember or are you continually having to spell out your info to every single client?
- Is DarciLaRocque.com better than PropertiesForYou.com?

What happens if you want to build a team?
- Are they going to want to use DarciLaRocque.com or PropertiesForYou.com to point their customers to?
- Are they going to want to use [email protected] or [email protected] for their email address?

What happens if you want to slow down or retire?
- You hand off your database and domain and email to another agent...and same as the 2nd comment above.

Most names are hard to spell. Is it Terry, Terri, Terrie, etc... Ideally, you should NOT have to spell it out, so your clients know what it is.
So avoid using YOUR name.
#2. WHAT IF YOU ARE PART OF A TEAM?

Avoid using YOUR NAMES in a team name.
- Think about the future if you ever want to sell, slow down, etc...Does anyone want JoeAndBetty.com?
- I cannot tell you how many times this has happened. Everything was amazing for Joe and Betty when they joined forces 5 years ago. They decided that Joe would purchase www.JoeAndBetty.com for them, and it was bliss for 5 years. Then Betty wanted to go out on her own and take all the info with her......
Who owns everything? Joe does! So 'if' he isn't being generous you 'could' lose all your data, client info, etc...
BE CAREFUL. Whoever buys the DOMAIN name owns the DOMAIN NAME and owns all the DATA!!!!
#3 WHO DO YOU USE TO BUY A DOMAIN NAME?
It would be in your best interest to buy your new domain from GoDaddy. Why? Because if you end up working with us, the new account is linked directly, so it makes the setup super easy! If you don't want to use GoDaddy, no worries, keep using your current service.

#5 BRAINSTORM
If this is the first time you're choosing a domain, please know that a lot of the names you have in mind may have already been taken. There are approximately 333.8 million domain names, if you want to be a bit more precise.
As you begin to explore different names, you may realize that most of your first choices have already been used. Even if already experienced, be prepared for yet another grueling task.
- Use a thesaurus to find synonyms and alternatives
- Brainstorm with your pals and family.
#6 THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
Including the name of your province, state or city will be more costly as they are popular. Less popular words are cheaper.
location like Location.com
listing like ListingVancouver
selling like SellingVancouver, SellingYourHome
realty like VancouverRealty
- homes like HomesInVancouver
- houses
- condo
- sales
- properties
- Use the acronym for your area as long as EVERYONE knows it.
- Use your state or your province if you know you will never ever work elsewhere.
- HomesInXXXXX.com
- HousesInXXXXX.com
- PropertiesInXXXXX.com
